This trinomen was discussed by Germar (1828: 150) as a wild variety of Coccus cacti [= Dactylopius coccus ], which is cultivated in Mexico. Lindinger (1943a: 250) listed this trinomen as a synonym of Dactylopius silvestris . Current status: Dactylopius tomentosus (Lamarck) (Family Dactylopiidae ).
