Goeze listed this name as a trinomen and quoted earlier works, which discussed the lac insect as a vernacular name. Lindinger (1933a: 228) discussed the name as Coccus gummilaccae Goeze and stated that the insect in its new combination of Tachardia gummilaccae (Goeze) should be accepted as an earlier name for Tachardia lacca ( Kerr, 1782) , described originally as Coccus lacca Kerr. Because Goeze's name was a trinomen, any action by Lindinger to resurrect Goeze's name as a binomen cannot be accepted.
