- Male cercus, quite slender, elongate, finger-like. The cercus of most other ceratopogonids is either lobe-like or, if more elongate, somewhat flattened mediolaterally. However, the feature is also present in Isthmohelea , where the cercus is significantly thicker than in Metacanthohelea .
