- Male with ventral apodemes of the gonocoxite forming a well-developed and distinctive transverse band medially, with thin lateral connections to the gonocoxite, varying from moderately to very thick and in a variety of shapes: more or less evenly curved, horseshoe-shaped, or a thick rectangle. The feature is unique in the Culicomorpha although a medial band is present in some other genera of Ceratopogonidae but in these instances narrowing from the gonocoxite medially and forming a more or less transverse band (see “Uncertain Character States”— “Male gonocoxal apodemes”).
- Male with ventral plate reduced anteriorly to medial set of small rods and/or small plates and the basal arms are absent. This condition is unique in Ceratopogonidae but perhaps related to the strongly developed transverse band described above.
