Clinohelea View in CoL :

- Female midtarsomere 1 with a group of 3–5 abutting or nearly abutting setae at the base of the tarsomere, with others forming a row of spaced, thicker setae, each with a base bearing elongate, curved spicules typical of the palisade setae found on the hind tarsomere 1 of most Ceratopogoninae (all but the Culicoidini ). This feature is unique in the Culicomorpha. The feature is also present in at least some (but not all) males.

- Male with midtarsomere 4 and hind tarsomere 4 apically bifid, somewhat similar to that of the female. This is likely a sex-linked autapomorphy, unique among males with the family. The males of other genera in which the female tarsomeres are bifid or quadrifid (see character 100), have cordiform tarsomeres 4.
