Description

Female: (n = 12) Body fusiform, 205 long, 65 wide, 55 thick; light yellow in color. Gnathosoma 25, projecting downwards, pedipalps with terminal segments very long and enclosing longform oral stylet. Prodorsal shield 41 long, 45 wide; prodorsal shield with small frontal lobe and some posterior granules; median, admedian and submedian lines present, median and admedian lines form an arrowlike at basal. Dorsal tubercles on rear margin, 35 apart, scapular setae (sc) 10 projecting posteriorly. Sternal line present. Coxal area with short lines; anterolateral setae on coxisternum I (1b) 10, proximal setae on coxisternum I (1a) 20, proximal setae on coxisternum II (2a) 30. Legs I 32 long, femur 10, basiventral femoral setae (bv) 15; genu 5 long, antaxial genual setae (l'') 30 long; tibia 7, paraxial tibial setae (l') 9, setae located 1/3 from dorsal base; tarsus 5 long; tarsal empodium simple, 8rayed, tarsal solenidion unknobbed. Legs II 30 long, femur 8, basiventral femoral setae (bv) 18; genu 5 long, antaxial genual setae (l'') 12 long; tibia 8; tarsus 5 long; tarsal empodium simple, 8rayed, tarsal solenidion unknobbed. Opisthosoma dorsally with about 49 microtuberculate annuli, ventrally with about 72 microtuberculate annuli. Setae c2 30 on ventral annulus 15; setae d 50 on ventral annulus 28; setae e 35 on ventral annulus 49; setae f 30 on 5th ventral annulus from rear. Setae h1 4 long. Female genitalia 10 long, 25 wide, coverflap with 12 longitudinal ridges, proximal setae on coxisternum III (3a) 20 long.

Male: (n = 2) 190 long, 55 wide; genitalia 7 long, 18 wide, proximal setae on coxisternum III (3a) 15 long.

Type data: Holotype, female, China: Henan Province, Song county, Tianchishan mountain. July 13, 2004, from Bambusa sp.( Gramineae ), coll. Xue XiaoFeng. Paratypes, 11 females and 2 males, with the same data as holotype.

Relation to host: Vagrant on leaf undersurface.

Etymology: This new species name is derived from that the species has long pedipalps.

Remarks: The new species is similar to Rhyncaphytoptus cryptomerus Huang, 2001 , but can be differentiated by the coxal area with short lines, prodorsal shield designs and pedipalps with terminal segments very long and enclosing the longform oral stylet.
