Metrobates amblydonti Nieser 1993 View in CoL : Storkia 22–25.

Redescription. Apterous male ( Fig. 1b View FIGURE 1 ): measurements (n= 10): Body: length 3.76, maximum width 1.92. Head: length 0.49, width 0.70, interocular distance 0.48. Lengths of antennal segments I–IV 1.31, 0.38, 0.29, 0.39. Rostrum length 0.73. Thorax: pronotum length 0.44. Legs segments lengths (femur, tibia, tarsomere I, tarsomere II): foreleg 1.50, 0.87, 0.11, 0.38; midleg 2.97, 5. 60, 0.74, 1.26; hindleg 5.10, 1. 57, 0.15, 0.47.

Color. Head black with a V-shaped interocular reddish brown stripe ( Fig. 1b View FIGURE 1 ). Antennal segment I with basal quarter reddish brown and distal three quarters dark brown; antennal segments II–IV brown with golden pubescence. Pronotum light green with apical black patch on each side. Mesonotum black, light green medially, and a longitudinal light green stripe on each side, stripe completely covering the anterior region of mesonotum and reaching mesoacetabulum; mesopleuron black. Metanotum and mediotergite I black with light green spot on each side. Thorax green ventrally. Fore femur with basal region reddish brown, distal region dark brown; fore tibia and tarsus dark brown. Mid- and hindlegs dark brown. Mediotergites II–IV light green; V–VI light green with a black spot distally; VII mostly black with a green spot on anterior margin; VIII dark green. Abdominal laterotergites light green, except for last one entirely dark green.

Structure. Antennal segment I slightly narrower basally with a row of long and erect setae ventrally. Antennal segments II and III each with a small tuft of short, erect setae apically. Rostrum reaching anterior margin of mesoesternum. Pronotum enclosed by posterolateral angles of eye and medioanterior angles of mesonotum. Mesonotum with a median longitudinal suture. Mesoacetabulum in ventral view with a short tooth-shaped projection ( Fig. 2b View FIGURE2 ). Mesosternum with a median longitudinal suture. Metanotum with posterior margin sinuous. Fore femur with an irregular row of long, thin setae on anteroventral surface. Fore tibia with a row of short, erect setae on the lateral margin, and with a triangular apical projection. Mediotergite I as long as metanotum. Mediotergite VIII longer than wide, twice as long as mediotergite VII and rounded apically. Paramere arcuate and broadly widened medially; apex with dorsal margin curved and ending straight, and ventral margin straight ( Fig. 3b View FIGURE 3 ). Vesica sclerites: auxiliary basal sclerite narrowed medially ( Fig. 4c, d View FIGURE 4 ), dorsal sclerite long and angled downwards anteriorly ( Fig. 4d View FIGURE 4 ). Lateral sclerite reduced at base and widened medially, with distal region truncated and directed towards the center in dorsal view and with a short cleft in lateral view ( Fig. 4d View FIGURE 4 ).

Apterous female measurements (n= 10). Body: length 3.57, maximum width 2.11. Head: length 0.49, width 0.57, interocular distance 0.44; Lengths of antennal segments I–IV: 1.0 8, 0.37, 0.28, 0.36. Rostrum length 0.76. Thorax: pronotum, length 0.42. Leg segments lengths (femur, tibia, tarsomere I, tarsomere II): foreleg 1.39, 0.98, 0.13, 0.40; midleg 2.87, 5. 60, 0.70, 1.23; hindleg 4.86, 1. 45, 0.16, 0.48.

Similar to male in color and structure, but differs by: antennal segment I slightly narrower in basal region with two long setae on ventral surface, antennal segments II and III without small tufts of short, erect setae in apical region. Mesoacetabulum without tooth-shaped projection. Fore tibia with a row of short setae on lateral margin and without triangular apical projection.

Diagnosis. M. amblydonti is similar to M. porcus Anderson but differs from it by the shape of the male paramere. The paramere of male of M. amblydonti is broadly widened medially and the apical region is pointed ( Fig. 3b View FIGURE 3 ), whereas M. porcus presents the paramere bilobed in the basal region and the apical region is more rounded ( Fig. 3d View FIGURE 3 ).

Known distribution. COLOMBIA: Amazonas, Antioquia, Caquetá, Casanare, Cesar, Córdoba, Norte de Santander, Putumayo, Quindío, Valle del Cauca and Vichada. ( Aristizábal 2002, Molano-Rendón et al. 2005, Padilla-Gil 2013, Padilla-Gil 2014). This is the first record of M. amblydonti for the departments of Cauca, La Guajira and Risaralda ( Fig. 5 View FIGURE 5 ).
