Hoplophoridae Huxley 1864 has priority over Glyptodontidae Gray 1869 , but this latter has been used by most of the authors since 1899 (e.g., among others, Scott, 1903, 1904; Richter 1911; Pascual et al. 1966; Mones 1986a; Carlini et al. 2008 a,
b) that it must be retained as a nomen protectum

( ICZN 1999: Art. 23.9; see McKenna & Bell 1997; Zurita et al. 2007). In this sense, the name Hoplophorinae Huxley 1864 (nom. transl. Weber & Abel, 1928) has priority over Sclerocalyptinae Ameghino, 1895 (nom. transl. Trouessart, 1898) (ICNZ 1999: Art. 23.2) (see Paula Couto 1957).
