56. Notylia pentachne Reichenbach (1854: 90) View in CoL .
Type:— PANAMA. s. loc., s.d., ex hort., F. C. Lehmann sub Keferstein s.n. (not found). Neotype (designated here):— PANAMA. Barro Colorado island, Canal Zone. 13 April 1968, T. M. Croat 4750 ( MO 1979166 !).
Notes: — Reichenbach (1854) described N. pentachne based on a cultivated plant he received from Lehmann without mentioning the holotype or informing the herbarium where it was deposited. An illustration based on the holotype made by Schlechter on one of his visits to the Reichenbach herbarium was located in collection 10192 at the AMES herbarium. However, when consulting Reichenbach’s collection at the W-R, the type specimen of N. pentachne was not located, indicating that it was either lost or had not been preserved. Therefore, sample MO 1979166 with the characteristics described by the author in the protologue and collected by Croat in Panama is designated here as a neotype.
