Type: — PERU. Pasco: Huancabamba: Santa Barbara, 1 km al E de la Escuela, zona de amortiguamiento del Parque Nacional Yanachaga-Chemillén, 3390–3420 m, 29 January 2005, E . Ortiz 2454, (holotype: MO!)

Distribution:— Peru in the department of Pasco. The only known record of the type is from central Peru on the eastern slopes of the Andes.

Notes:— Epidendrum yanachagaënse is recognized by the leaves, 0.8–4 × 0.9–1.3 cm, ovate-elliptic, the flowers green with purple black spots at the apex of the column and lip, the sepals 15-16 mm long, elliptic, the petals 15 × 4 mm, oblanceolate and falcate, and the lip sub-orbicular and convex in natural position. Florally it is different from other species of the Soratae subgroup , but very similar to E. erosum which belongs to the Cernuum group and is endemic to Colombia and has leaves 2–10.5 × 0.7–1.9 cm, lanceolate-oblong to narrowly elliptic, the sepals 10–12 mm long and the petals 9–11.5 mm, linear-oblanceolate, not falcate.

Conservation Status:— DD. Data deficient.
