Delphinium viscosum subsp. gigantobracteum (Brühl ex Huth) P.Agnihotri, D.Husain, Harsh Singh & T.Husain View in CoL
(2016: 18) ≡ Delphinium viscosum var. gigantobracteum Brühl ex Huth (1895: 401) .
Type (lectotype, designated here):— INDIA. Sikkim, Zeylep La , September 1879, G. King s.n. (JE barcode JE00016392 [digital image!], Figure 1 View FIGURE 1 ; isolectotype CAL acc. no. 6884!) .
Notes:— Delphinium viscosum subsp. gigantobracteum was originally described at varietal level, based on collections made by King’s Collectors from Sikkim. Recently, the name was proposed at subspecies level by Agnihotri et al. (2016) but it was not validly published as the name was based on two types with type citation as “ INDIA: Sikkim: Chumbi, Kungbur, 7 Aug. 1884, Dr. King’s collector 42 (CAL); Sikkim, Zeylep La, Sept. 1879, G. King (CAL)”. Besides the two specimens cited in Agnihotri et al. (2016), we have found one more specimen kept at JE, annotated by Brühl as Delphinium viscosum var. gigantobracteum along with a second label provided by Huth. Therefore, we choose this ‘Zeylep La’ specimen kept at JE as the lectotype, in accordance with Arts. 7.7 and 9.2 of the ICN ( McNeill et al. 2012).
Taxonomic notes:— Delphinium viscosum subsp. gigantobracteum is characterized by trilobed leaves, bracts ranging between 2.5 ‒ 5.5 cm in length and bracteoles ranging between 0.7 ‒ 2.0 cm in length, placed at the base of the flower.
