COMMON NAME (S): Red bollworm (Cotton pest). SYNONYM(S): None.

IUCN STATUS: Not Evaluated (NE).

DISTRIBUTION: Botswana, Cameroon, Eritrea, Eswatini, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, Somalia, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe.

LOCALITY IN ZAMBIA: Mazabuka ** and Gwembe, in Southern Province ; Mumbwa **, in Central Province; Chipata, in Eastern Province.

LARVAL HOSTPLANT(S): The taxon is a very important cotton pest. In South Africa, the host plants of the taxon include Gossypium sp. , Gossypioides sp. , and C ienfuegosia sp., from the plant family Malvaceae ; in Uganda, Pinus patula

Schltdl. & Cham. ( Pinaceae ) and Gossypium sp. (Malvacea) ; in Nigeria, Gossypium sp. (Malvaceae) ;

and also in Mozambique, Gossypium sp. (Malvaceae) . No host plants are known for the taxon in Zambia.

Brachymeria olethria (Waterston) the wasp from the family Chalcididae is a parasitoid of the taxon in

Nigeria ( Lamborn 1914).
