COMMON NAME (S): Spotted stalk borer, spotted stemborer, Spotted stem-borer or Sorghum stem borer.
SYNONYM(S): Argyria lutulentalis Tams, 1932 ; Chilo acutus Bhattacherjee, 1971 ; Chilo coimbatorensis Bhattacherjee, 1971 ; Chilo kanpurensis Bhattacherjee, 1971 .
IUCN STATUS: Not Evaluated (NE).
DISTRIBUTION: Angola, Benin, Botswana, Comoros, Ethiopia, India, Kenya, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mayotte, Mozambique, Namibia , Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe.
LOCALITY IN ZAMBIA: Chilanga and Lusaka , in Lusaka Province; Mumbwa, in Central Province ; Mufulira, in Copperbelt Province ; Sinazongwe district , in Southern Province ; Agro-ecological Zone 1 [areas with less than 600 mm of rainfall per annum], in Southern and Lusaka Provinces; Portion of the Southern Africa biodiversity conservation four corners area in Zambia in Northwestern, Western and Southern Provinces of the country .
LARVAL HOSTPLANT(S): Pest of maize, sorghum, finger millet and Bulrush Millet in Southern Africa. Larvae bore into cobs and stalks but are usually less abundant and damaging than the Maize Stalk Borer. The species not yet assessed for the IUCN Red List, and also is not in the Catalogue of Life.
