Molophilus (Molophilus) pleuralis View in CoL de Meijere, 1920
Figures 24, 25 View FIGURES 21 – 29
Molophilus pleuralis View in CoL de Meijere, 1920: 60 (description), Pl. 4, Figs 53a–b (male terminalia).
Type material examined. The species was described from an unspecified number of specimens from “Amsterdam, Diemen, Haarlem, Abcoude, Hilversum, Uitgeest, Leimuiden, Zwammerdam” (de Meijere 1920: 60). Altogether 32 syntypes (25 3, 5 Ƥ, 2 specimens without abdomen) are now deposited in ZMAN, and one male syntype in ZMHB (de Jong 2000: 170–171). I have examined four male syntypes from ZMAN, all belonging to M. (M.) pleuralis , including one labelled (but not published) as lectotype by Br. Theowald. The latter is here designated accordingly. Lectotype 3 (by present designation): Netherlands, Amsterdam, 11.v.1919 (J.C.H. de Meijere leg.) ( ZMAN), labelled “Amsterdam / 11.V.19 / de Meijere” (partly printed, date handwritten), a paper square with “C”, “ Lectotype / M. pleuralis / n. sp. / des. Theow.” (handwritten, red), “ Molophilus / pleuralis / de Meijere, 1920 / ZMAN type DIPT.0671.22” (printed, red). Labelled as lectotype by the present author (“ LECTOTYPE / Molophilus / pleuralis de Meijere 3 / J. Starý 2010”; printed red label). The specimen is micro-pinned on a piece of foam, with only left fore and mid legs attached; apex of abdomen cut off. Terminalia mounted by de Meijere in Canada balsam on a celluloid slide, pinned with the specimen. Paralectotypes: Netherlands: Diemen, 3.viii.1918, 1 3; Uitgeest, 1.viii.1918, 1 3; Haarlem, ± 18.viii.1919, 1 3 (all J.C.H. de Meijere leg.) (all ZMAN). All specimens have red paratype labels and labels with numbers “0671.17”, “0671.12”, and “0671.25”, respectively. All specimens subsequently labelled as paralectotypes by the present author. The lectotype is designated here to stabilize the concept of the name with respect to M. (M.) brevifurcatus sp. n.
Other material examined (9 3, 1 Ƥ): Greece: Pieria Region: Eginio env., Aliakmonas delta, cut-off meander, 4.vi.2007, 1 3 (J. Starý leg.) ( JSO). Crete: Khania Region: Kavros, 19.v.2004, 1 3 (J. Roháček & M. Vála leg.); Kavros, marsh, 20.v.2004, 6 3, 1 Ƥ; Kavros, 24.v.2004, 1 3 (both J. Starý leg.) (all JSO).
Distribution. Widely distributed in the Palaearctic: Europe, including Cyprus; Turkey, Transcaucasia, Israel, Iran, Middle Asia, Russia as far as Far East. First records for Greece (incl. Crete).
