scientific name

Pyralis desfontainana
status

desfontainana Fabricius, 1794

Pyralis desfontainana Fabricius, 1794: 268 .

Type locality. England (“Habitat in Anglia Mus. Dom. Francillon”).

Material examined. None.

Identity. Acleris cristana ( Denis and Schiffermüller, 1775) ( Tortricinae , Tortricini ).

Remarks. Together with P. rossiana , P. ephippana , and P. profanana (see these below), this is one of the oldest synonyms of the highly variable species A. cristana . Guenée (1845) recognized them as varieties of A. cristana , and in contemporary literature P. desfontainana is merely considered a synonym (e.g., Brown 2005).
