Prosopogryllacris Karny, 1937 View in CoL
Type species: Gryllacris personata Serville, 1831
Discussion. Prosopogryllacris comprises more or less fully winged species with media anterior fused in basal area with radius and the ovipositor has a weak apical widening. Face often black or dark with large pale median ocellus. Male ninth abdominal tergite with a pair of simple, usually upcurved, and only little sclerotised projections from above hind margin. Prosopogryllacris is similar to Gryllacris but the female subgenital plate less strongly modified, rather simple but of generally similar outline; the male ninth tergite is not prolonged into a long process but provided with two upcurved appendages. The male and female abdominal appendages of several species resemble the situation in some species of Xanthogryllacris . There is also a certain similarity of these appendages to that in some species of Eugryllacris . The latter genus is however characterized by the wide and stout head with deep furrows, while in Prosopogryllacris and Xanthogryllacris the head is narrower and not so deeply furrowed.
