Amara brunnipes Motschulsky, 1859a: 154 [primary homonym of Amara similata brunnipes Letzner, 1852]. Type locality: "St. Francisco [San Francisco County, California]" (original citation). Lectotype (♀), designated by Hieke (1993: 112), in ZMMU. Note. This name was listed as " Amara brunnipennis " by Motschulsky (1869: 26).

Amara americana Csiki, 1929: 410. Replacement name for Amara brunnipes Motschulsky, 1859.

Distribution.

This species ranges from northern Washington south to the Mexican border in southern California, east to eastern Nevada (Hieke 1993: 114). One specimen simply labeled from Mexico is known (Hieke 1993: 114).
