Holotype

Male. CHINA: HENAN: Mt Baiyunshan (33 ◦ 39 ′ N, 111 ◦ 49 ′ E, 1300 m), Songxian Co., 1 June 2001, leg. XC Shen.

Paratypes

3♂♂ 5♀♀, CHINA: HENAN: same data as holotype .

Etymology

The specific name refers to the type locality, Baiyunshan.

Diagnosis

Dicerapanorpa baiyunshana sp. nov. is similar to D. magna (Chou) in wing markings, but can be readily differentiated from the latter by the following characters: paramere of male genitalia with long basal branch (cf. short); marginal spot of wings large, extending to vein R 4+5 (cf. small, only reaching R 2+3); female subgenital plate subtriangular (cf. ovoid); tip of posterior arm of genital plate acute (cf. rounded).

Description – male

Body yellowish; vertex yellowish brown; ocellar triangle black; rostrum yellow, with a pair of indistinct brown lateral longitudinal stripes; maxillary palp brown with the

apical segment black; labial palp yellowish-brown with apical segment black; antennal scape yellowish brown, pedicel dark brown, flagellum black.

Thorax. Pronotum yellowish brown, mesonotum and metanotum yellow, with a black longitudinal stripe along each side. Pronotum with 12–14 setae along anterior margin, and six to eight setae on posterior margin. Pleura cream-coloured, with several irregular dark spots. Legs light yellow. Coxae bearing microsetae on anterior surface; tibiae with two apical spurs and several lateral spines; tarsomeres darkening toward apex; apical tarsomere entirely blackish brown ( Figure 4A View Figure 4 ).

Wings. Forewing length 16.5–17.0 mm, width 4.2–4.6 mm; hindwing length 14.0–15.0 mm, width 4.0– 4.2 mm. Wing membrane yellowish brown with dark brown markings; apical band broad, enclosing a large hyaline window; pterostigmal band complete, with a broad basal branch and a narrow distal branch; marginal spot elongate, extending from Sc to beyond R 4+5; basal band complete, across the wing; basal spot very small, absent in some individuals. Hindwing similar to forewing, but the basal band usually reduced and not reaching the rear margin of wing; basal spot absent ( Figure 4A View Figure 4 ).

Abdomen. Terga I–V pale yellow, with two black longitudinal lateral stripes; the corresponding sterna slightly paler; notal organ of third tergum semicircular, not prominent. Tergum VI with a pair of short digitate anal horns on posterior margin. Segments VII and VIII yellowish, with the basal half much thinner than the distal half ( Figure 4A View Figure 4 ).

Male genitalia. Genital bulb oval. Epandrium broad basally and slightly narrowed toward apex, with a broad deep U-shaped emargination ( Figure 4C View Figure 4 ). Hypovalves with long bristles along the inner margin, not reaching the apex of gonocoxite ( Figure 4D View Figure 4 ). Gonostylus slightly shorter than gonocoxite, with a sharp median process on the inner margin; the basal process cuneiform in ventral view. Parameres slender, trifurcate; the basal branch considerably long and straight, reaching the apex of ventral valve of aedeagus; the lateral branch long and curved, extending over the apex of gonocoxite; the main branch reaching the median process of gonostylus. Aedeagus consisting of paired strongly sclerotized ventral and dorsal valves; the ventral valves short and rounded apically; dorsal valves semicircular, with subacute tip, bearing blackish setae ( Figure 4D, E View Figure 4 ).

Description – female

Similar to male in head and thorax. Forewing length 16.5–17.5 mm, width 5.0– 5.2 mm; hindwing length 15.5–16.0 mm, width 4.5–5.0 mm. Markings dark brown, the basal band thicker and longer than in male ( Figure 4B View Figure 4 ).

Female genitalia. Subgenital plate subtriangular, widest at the sub-basal part, with lateral margins straight; a weakly sclerotized ligulate process extending from caudal margin, and covered with long bristles ( Figure 4F View Figure 4 ). Genital plate broad, strongly sclerotized, ventrally folded on each side; posterior arms broad, slightly divergent, and

terminating in a sharply pointed tip. Axis very short, almost entirely concealed in the plate ( Figure 4 View Figure 4 G–I).
