Type Locality: No locality cited; identified as French Guiana, Cayenne ( Hershkovitz, 1963).

Distribution: Mexico (E from Oaxaca and Veracruz) and all other Central American states; South America in N Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, W Ecuador, French Guiana, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Surinam, and Venezuela. Introduced to Cuba.
Conservation: CITES – Appendix II; IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).
