According to Kukwa & Flakus (2009), thallus leprose, cottony, soft, thick; white, cream to greyish cream; thallus margin delimited, sublobed or diffuse; medulla rarely present, white, soredia rather loosely packed, mostly coarse, often with short projecting hyphae.
Chemistry: Pannaric, methyl pannaric, elatinic acids and sometimes unknown dibenzofuranes reported. K−, C−, KC−, Pd+ reddish orange.
Ecology and Distribution: The species is found growing over mosses, bark, rock, soil and lichens. It was reported from Colombia, Great Britain, Greenland, Japan, Nepal, Papua New Guinea, Peru, South Geogia, Turkey and Antarctica.
In India Singh & Sinha (2010) listed this species from Himachal Pradesh, Tamilnadu and Uttarakhand.
