Type locality.
Lampedusa Is., Italy.
Type depository.
Museo d’Aumale, Terrasini, Palermo, Italy: 1 ♀ holotype, 1 ♂ paratype ( Franciscolo 1991). Not examined.
Diagnosis.
Mordellistena irritans can be assigned to M. hirtipes complex based on the expanded maxillary palpomere II in males and the shape of parameres. This species can be distinguished from all other species in the complex by the characteristic shape of the left paramere with dorsal branch parallel-sided and rounded at apex (Fig. 9).
Distribution.
Known only from the type locality.
