Echinopla melanarctos, Smith   HNS , Proc. Linn. Soc. ii. 79. 1 [[worker]].

Worker. Length 2 1/2 - 3 lines. - Black: body hispid; the palpi pale testaceous; on each side of the face anteriorly is a thin raised plate, beneath which the antennae are inserted; the sides of the head longitudinally and coarsely rugose; the head above, the thorax and abdomen, covered with short blunt spines, each of the spines having a long stiff hair at its apex; the node of the abdomen transverse, terminating on each side in a long sharp spine; the abdomen globose, beneath, smooth and shining.
