Type Locality: Argentina, Neuquén Prov., 2 km S Cerro Quillén at Pampa de Hui Hui (1050 m).

Vernacular Names: Sage's Rock Rat.

Distribution: Known only from near Lago Quillén and Lago Hui Hui at Pampa de Hui Hui in Neuquén Prov. of Argentina. but reports suggest it might also occur in Malleco Prov. of Chile.

Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc). Locally abundant, but may have very limited distribution.

Discussion: Much smaller than A. fuscus . Karyotype has 2n=54 and FN=104 ( Gallardo and Reise, 1992).
