Macropsis hainanensis Li, Dai et Li , sp. nov.

Material examined. Holotype: 3, China, Hainan province, Jianfengling, 800–1000 m above sea level, 12. VII. 2007, collected by Xing Jichun; paratype: 1 Ƥ, China, Hainan province, Jianfengling, Tianchi, 19. IV. 2009, collected by Jiang Xiaohong.

Description. Body yellowish brown, eyes and pronotum dark brown, cuticle impressions on face and on pronotum between striae darker than surrounding areas (Figs. 13–15). Scutellum yellowish, triangular spots in side margins distinctly visible due to darker coloration and smooth cuticle, end of scutellum also dark. Forewings translucent, yellowish brown with minute speckles forming dark spots at end of clavus and on distal margin. Legs yellow brown.

Head strongly curved forward, slightly wider than pronotum, forms almost right angle in dorsal view. Face longer than its width, strongly striated, frons with a longitudinal carina. Pronotum nearly triangular, also with longitudinal carina, pronotal striae strongly oblique. Scutellum with weak longitudinal carina and with heavy notch on posterior part.

Female similar to male in external appearance and body coloration, but somewhat darker; body shape slightly more stout.

Abdominal apodemes of 2nd sternite in male very wide in basal part, nearly triangular, bent towards each other, tips slightly turned inwards (Fig. 70).

Pygofer short, slightly concave on caudoventral margin. Pygofer processes bent forward, do not reach dorsal margin, narrowed and flattened in distal half, with sharpened tips (Fig. 69). Shaft of aedeagus slender, in side view of almost same width throughout most part of its length, tip round, gonopore apical (Figs. 71–72). Styles straight and slender, tips round, upturned (Fig. 73). Connective stout, with a finger-like protrusion in middle, both lateral arms bend to dorsum (Figs. 74–75).

7th sternite in female nib-shaped, tapering towards end, in midline twice as long as 6th one, posterior margin with a deep notch. Ovipositor strongly projecting beyond pygofer, 2nd valvulae with 2 additional teeth each (Fig. 76). Body length (including tegmina): 3, 3.4 mm; Ƥ, 3.5 mm.

Host. Unknown.

Distribution. China (Hainan prov.).

Diagnosis. The new species is similar to M. sympatrica Viraktamath, 1996 , but can be distinguished from the latter one by the narrow apex of aedeagal shaft, bearing no expansion (in M. sympatrica the apex of aedeagus is widened and rounded) and by the shape of pygofer and pygofer processes.

Etymology. The new species name derives from the name of type locality, Hainan.

Remark. Belongs to the East-Asiatic group of species with well-developed longitudinal carina on pronotum and scutellum, parallel-sided shaft of aedeagus and pygofer processes of various shape. In all known cases the representatives of this group dwell on oaks ( Quercus spp ., Fagaceae ).
