Family Assignment Uncertain. Tonkinodentus View in CoL was originally assigned to the Theatopsinae ( Cryptopidae View in CoL ) sensu Schileyko (1992) (= Plutoniuminae (Cryptopidae) sensu Shelley (1997, 2002)), but Shelley (1997:54) removed it from this taxon and left it unassigned because of the great geographical disparity with the rest of the subfamily, which occurs in North America and the Mediterranean region of Europe. The last pair of legs, diagnostic for the Plutoniuminae , are missing from the holotype, the only specimen of T. lestes View in CoL , and unequivocal placement in the Plutoniuminae has not been demonstrated.
