Type Locality: "Asia et America septentrionali," restricted by Thomas (1911 a), to" Kamtchatka ", then by Heptner et al. (1967:884) to "Commander Isls" [ Russia]. Roest (1973) listed the type locality as "the east central coast of Kamchatka, opposite the Commander Islands" [ Russia] .

Synonyms: Enhydra lutris subsp. gracilis (Bechstein 1800) ; Enhydra lutris subsp. kamtschatica Dybowski 1922 ; Enhydra lutris subsp. marina ( Erxleben 1777) ; Enhydra lutris subsp. orientalis (Oken 1816) ; Enhydra lutris subsp. stelleri (Lesson 1827) .
