ORIGINALLY INCLUDED SPECIES: Hirtea collaris Fabricius, 1805 (with “ Laphria thoracica ” Fabricius, 1805 in synonymy); Tipula ruficollis Fabricius, 1781 ; Hirtea fulvicollis Fabricius, 1805 ; Hirtea funebris Fabricius, 1805 ; Plecia vittata Wiedemann, 1828 ; Plecia plagiata Wiedemann, 1828 .

TYPE SPECIES: Hirtea fulvicollis Fabricius, 1805 , by subsequent designation ( Blanchard, 1840: 576) .

CURRENT STATUS: Valid genus [ teste Sabrosky (1999: 251) ].

FAMILY: BIBIONIDAE .

CURRENT STATUS: Incorrect subsequent spelling of Polymera Wiedemann, 1821 .

FAMILY: LIMONIIDAE .

REMARKS: Criteria to make this name available as an emendation were not found to be fulfilled in this work.
