14. Epopter Wiedemann, 1830a: 91 .
ORIGINALLY INCLUDED SPECIES: Psarus ornatus Wiedemann, 1830 .
TYPE SPECIES: Psarus ornatus Wiedemann, 1830 [= Chrysotoxum vittata Wiedemann, 1830 ], by monotypy. CURRENT STATUS: Junior synonym of Sphecomyia Latreille, 1829 . New synonymy.
FAMILY: SYRPHIDAE .
REMARKS: Epopter has not been listed as an available name in any of the recent regional catalogs of Diptera . It was originally ( Wiedemann, 1830a: 91) proposed in synonymy with Psarus ornatus Wiedemann, 1830 and was made available by usage as a valid taxon before 1961 [e.g., by Packard (1877: 291)]. Psarus ornatus is currently treated as a junior synonym of Chrysotoxum vittata Wiedemann, 1830 [ teste Poole (1996: 267)] in the genus Sphecomyia Latreille, 1829 . Epopter Wiedemann, 1830 is thus a junior synonym of Sphecomyia Latreille, 1829 , n. syn.
