Taxonomy. Myotis clydejonesi Moratelli et al., 2016 View in CoL ,

Subgenus Pizonyx; albescens species group. See M. nigricans . Only known from holotype, but validity seems to be well supported by morphological and molecular analyses. Monotypic.

Distribution. Only known from type locality, an island in the Coppername River in C Suriname. View Figure

Descriptive notes. Head—body 50 mm, tail 38 mm, ear 11 mm, forearm 34- 9 mm, hindfoot 6 mm; weight 4- 3 g. Pelageis silky; dorsal hairs are blackish, without contrast between bases and tips. Ventral hairs are blackish basally (two-thirds the total fur length), yellowish red on tips, and contrast strongly between bases and tips. Ears are comparatively short, extending forward halfway from eye to nostril. Membranes are medium brown; plagiopatagium is attached to foot at toes by a broad band of membrane. Dorsal surfaces of elbow and tibia are naked or nearly naked, and fringe of hairs along trailing edge of uropatagium is absent. Skull is medium in length (greatest length of skull 14: 3 mm); frontals are slightly inclined, with smooth transition from rostrum to braincase; occipital region is rounded and does not project much behind level of occipital condyles; and skull is moderately flattened. Sagittal and lambdoidal crests are low. P? is aligned in tooth row (not displaced lingually) and visible in lateral view. Wing morphology is typical of aerial insectivore that uses cluttered spaces.

Habitat. Dense tropical lowland forest with limited understory (type locality).

Food and Feeding. No information.

Breeding. Holotype was a lactating female, captured in January.

Activity patterns. Clyde Jones’s Myotis emerged just before sunset.

Movements, Home range and Social organization. No information.

Status and Conservation. Not assessed on The IUCN Red List.
