Lectotype (Blake in Rhodora 20: 23. 1918): Clayton 380 (BM-000051193).

Current name: Eleocharis capitatus (L.) R. Br. View in CoL ( Cyperaceae ).

Note: Blake (1918) treated the Clayton material as the type but this choice provoked extensive discussion by Fernald (in Rhodora 23: 106. 1921), Mackenzie (l.c. 30: 237. 1928), Farwell (l.c. 32: 181. 1930), Blake (l.c. 32: 182. 1930) again, Svenson (l.c. 34: 195. 1932; 41: 50. 1939) and Furtado (in Gard. Bull. Straits Settlem. 9: 243. 1937). However, Blake’s original choice has priority.
