Type Locality: USA, California, San Bernardino Co., San Bernardino Mtns, Squirrel Inn, Little Bear Valley, 5,500 ft. (1,576 m).
Vernacular Names: White-eared Pocket Mouse.

Distribution: SC California ( USA).
Conservation: IUCN – Critically Endangered as P. a. alticola [sic]; Lower Risk (nt) as P. a. inexpectatus.
Discussion: Subspecies listed by Hall (1981), Williams et al. (1993); may be only subspecifically distinct from parvus . Reviewed by Best (1994 a, Mammalian Species No. 463).
