Eupolyphaga daweishana sp. nov.
( Figs. 8 View FIGURE 8 E–H; 16 D–F; 36 A–D; 38 E–F, N; 46 A–G)
Type material. Holotype: CHINA: Yunnan: male (SWU), Mt. Daweishan [大围山], Pingbian County [屏边县], Honghe Prefecture [红河州], 2100m, inside dry wood bits under the roots of trees, 18.V.2016, Lu Qiu leg., reared by Lu Qiu from the nymph.
Other material examined. Several nymphs and oothecae (SWU, nymphs all in 100% alcohol), same data as the holotype.
Diagnosis. Male of this species can be easily distinguished from the congeners by the shape of anterior margin of pronotum ( Fig. 16 D View FIGURE 16 ), and the dim but dense maculae on tegmina ( Fig. 8 E View FIGURE 8 ). The nymph is yellowish, with brown spots.
Description. Male. General: measurements (mm): body length: 19.2, overall length: 31.3, pronotum length×width: 4.9×8.4, tegmen length: 26.6. Median size, slender, brown, tegmina densely with maculae ( Fig. 8 View FIGURE 8 E–F). Head: black, smooth. Interocular space moderate, ocelli not protruded; Ocelli ridge pubescent, shallow, slightly curved. Antennae brownish black. Frons flat, median with pubescent upheaval. Clypeus not distinct, anteclypeus brownish yellow, post-clypeus completely black, labrum brownish yellow, quadrate. Maxillary palpi and labial palpi dark brown, with joint parts yellow ( Fig. 16 View FIGURE 16 E–F). Pronotum: Brown, anterior with short whitish margin. Surface generally with many small brownish pubescence and several dark brown setae, lateral margins additionally setose. Margins angular, apex convex and truncated, lateral fore borders oblique, lateral margins round, then straightly narrower, forming obtuse angles with hind margin, hind margin slightly curved outward ( Fig. 16 D View FIGURE 16 ). Tegmina and wings: Exceeded the end of abdomen about 9 mm. Tegmen hyaline, light brown, densely covered with dull small brown maculae. Wings transparently brown, M area and anal area hyaline, distal portion of CuA with dim maculae. Legs: blackish brown, joint parts slightly yellowish, surface covered with short yellowishbrown pubescence; tibial spines blackish brown, apex reddish brown. Abdomen: smooth, blackish brown. Supraanal plate well pubescent, apex protruded, round; cerci slender, blackish ( Fig. 36 A View FIGURE 36 , two median sclerites missing thus not shown). Subgenital plate unicolored, blackish brown for the exposed part, slightly asymmetrical, right portion lager than the left, hind margin softly waved, right lateral margin slightly straight, left lateral margin round; styli black, similar, right slightly smaller than the left ( Fig. 36 B View FIGURE 36 ). Genitalia: moderate sclerotized. Left phallomere: small. L1 with protruded anterior portion, left with a thin process, median necked, two hind lobes large, with large membrane area; L2 very slender, curved roundly, right end wrench like; L3 slender, apex curved roundly, sharp; pda and paa elongate; L8 moderate sized. Right phallomere: large. R1M with median thin, posterior portion enlarged, bulbous; R3 weakly sclerotized, median transparent widely; R2 with two large chunks, outer one round, inner one near trapezoid shaped ( Fig. 36 View FIGURE 36 C–D).
Female. Unknown.
Nymph. Female nymph yellow. Head yellow, median of face with a large blackish marking, labrum brownish yellow, antennae black, with basal two segments yellow, maxillary palpi and labial palpi black; pro-, meso- and metanotum setose, yellowish brown, with dim yellow markings, legs blackish brown, with joint parts yellow, abdomen terga rough, yellow, with dull brown spots, median with a brown longitudinal line; sternites pubescent, yellow, densely with brown maculae, median with a wide longitudinal yellow line, cerci black ( Figs. 8 View FIGURE 8 G–H; 46 F).
Ootheca. As Fig. 38 View FIGURE 38 E–F and N, reddish brown, serration of keel large, slightly curved, apex blunt. Respiratory canals invisible. The arrangement of longitudinal ridges loose.
Etymology. The species epithet is from the type locality Mt. Daweishan, in Yunnan.
Natural History. Nymphs and oothecae were found inside the wooden humus around the root of dead tree (or dead part of the living tree) in the forest from Mt. Daweishan, Yunnan ( Fig. 46 View FIGURES 46 A–F). After rearing, only one adult male was successfully secured from the nymph ( Fig. 46 G View FIGURES 46 ).
Distribution. China (Yunnan) ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 ).
