Tabanus pallidipes Austen, 1920 View in CoL

Currently, Tabanus pallidipes is an accepted name. However, Austen (1920) mentioned that pallidipes is probably identical to T. arabicus . Austen (1920) did not find a detailed description and typical specimens of arabicus , so he considered specimens of pallidipes as a new species. On the other hand, T. pallidipes closely resembles T. laetetinctus , but they differ in the width of frons, the form of the frontal calli and the color of the abdomen ( Abbassian-Lintzen 1964). Tabanus pallidipes was recorded from Iraq, Jordan, Palestine, and Syria ( Abbassian-Lintzen 1964; Theodor 1965; Al-Talafha et al. 2005). According to Müller et al. (2011) pallidipes is endemic to the Levant.
