This genus is endemic to the mountain ranges of the Atlantic Rainforest, based on current knowledge ( Silveira et al. 2016b). Several species have been described in Silveira et al. (2018). Species of Luciuranus comprise tiny fireflies (usually smaller than 6 mm). The genus can be characterised by clypeus connate to frons, filiform antenna as long as half of body length; elytron subparallel-sided, with a rather rudimentary epipleuron, wings lacking r3; abdominal sternum IX asymmetric and strongly indented, sometimes enlarged, with a pair of distinct, long bristles on the posterior margin. Sexual dimorphism is usually neglectable, though males of some species may have larger eyes in comparison to females. Immature stages unknown.
