Karsch 1885: 136, fig. 6 (as Rhax termes nov. spec.)
Type locality and specimens. ♂, ♀. Aus der Ebene am Longidoberge, Massai-Land.
Dimensions. Long. foem. ca. 50, maris ca. 55 mm. [39.01; 49.06]
Oldest label. Rhagodes termes (Karsch) ♀ Originalexempl., Dr. G. A. Fischer l. Soc. Georg. d. 1883, Massaigeb ( Kraepelin handwriting).
Additional label. Rhagodoca termes (Karsch) . 1♀ —(Original)—Massai. revid. 1931 Roewer—No. 8224.
Type material. Lectotype ♀ here designated (ZMH-A0000162).
Taxonomic remarks. The female from the type series is designated as a lectotype (contra Weidner 1959: 111) since the male specimen described by Karsch (1885: 136) is a misidentification according to Kraepelin (1899: 210). Kraepelin stated that the couple described by Karsch as one species do in fact belong to two different species. He clearly states that the female is R. termes and that the male described by Karsch should be named R. karschi .
Collection remarks. The type locality is the plains at the base of Mount Longido in the Arusha Region of northern Tanzania. See Ceroma ornatum for additional collection details.
Current systematic position. Rhagodidae , Rhagodoca termes ( Karsch 1885) .
