Georissites Laporte, 1840b: 44 [stem: Georiss-]. Type genus: Georissus Latreille, 1809 [placed on the Official List of Generic Names in Zoology (ICZN 1998)]. Comment: original vernacular name available (Art. 11.7.2): first used in latinized form by Heer (1841a: 471, as Georissida ), generally accepted as in Hansen (2004: 42, as Georissidae ).
