Current name: Lespedeza frutescens (L.) Hornem. ( Fabaceae : Faboideae ).

Note: See review by Reveal & Barrie (in Phytologia 71: 456-461. 1991), who conclude that the lectotype belongs to what has been known as L. violacea (L.) Pers. , and that the type of the latter is a specimen of L. intermedia Britton . Turland & Jarvis (in Taxon 46: 471. 1997) were therefore wrong to indicate H. frutescens as a synonym of L. violacea , and Akiyama’s type choice there is pre-dated by that of Britton, albeit using the same element.
