Description
Adult ( Figure 2F View Figure 2 ). Wing expanse 17.0– 17.5 mm. Head white, with fuscous scale tufts at lateral side. Antenna with scape dark brown on dorsal surface, grey-white on ventral surface; flagellum grey-yellow ringed with dark brown on dorsal surface. Labial palpus white, with scattered brown scales on inner side; second segment with basal two-thirds black on outer side, bearing a black subapical annulus; third segment bearing black stripes, mottled pink at apex. Thorax dark brown, white posteriorly, mixed with grey-brown scales. Tegula grey-brown, bordered by yellow-white. Fore wing ground colour grey-brown; costal margin straight, orange except brown at base; termen almost straight, concave slightly below apex, dark brown; distal part of vein R 1 orange; short longitudinal black streak placed at distal between R 2 and R 3, orange above and below the streak; an elongate black spot at base of dorsum gradually narrowed and weakened to before tornus; large, diffused black patch placed at distal part of cell; cilia grey-white, grey medially, forming a dark line. Hind wing and cilia yellow-grey in male, deep grey in female, apex black. Fore leg white; tibia dark brown on outer side; tarsus pink, dark brown on outer side, with long pink hairs, with black spot distally. Mid- and hind legs yellow-white to white, tibiae with distal two-thirds black on outside, with black speckles at distal one-third, black on end. Abdomen orange-yellow.
Male genitalia ( Figure 3F View Figure 3 )
Uncus long and thin, apex pointed. Gnathos with median part convex backward, forming a small process, with a pair of strongly sclerotized clawlike processes laterally. Valva broad, roundly protrudent at apex; costa protruded medially, incurved at base; dorsoproximal process dilated in oval shape, with setae. Sacculus approximately as long as valva, narrowing to apex, with a thin, band-shaped, strongly sclerotized edge from dorsal one-third to distal end, concave at basal one-third. Vinculum band-like, straight laterally. Juxta shield-like. Aedeagus short and sturdy, less than half length of valva, apex obliquely truncate.
Female genitalia ( Figure 4B View Figure 4 )
Apophysis anterior approximately as long as half length of apophysis posterior. Corpus bursae oval, about one-quarter length of ductus burse; signum placed at anterior
one-third, heavily sclerotized, having three or four pairs of long thorn-like spines of different shape and size.
Diagnosis
The new species is close to E. leptorthra Meyrick. It can be distinguished by the male costa obviously convex at middle and the sacculus concave at basal one-third. In E. leptorthra Meyrick , the costa is arched slightly and the sacculus is almost straight dorsally.
Etymology
This specific epithet comes from the Latin prefix term - (= terminal) and protrusus (= protrudent), referring to the valva protruding roundly apically.
