( Figures 21–25 View FIGURES 21 – 25 )

Diagnosis. Females with dorsal shield mostly smooth, with scanty anterolateral striae; z 4 about twice as long as z 2; S 2 longer than Z 1; Z 4 longer than the distance between its base and the base of Z 5; spermatheca with calyx tubular and atrium elongate; ventrianal shield vase-shaped.

Specimens examined. Holotype and one paratype female from Aparisthmium cordatum Baill., Cananéia , State of São Paulo, 19 March 2001, L.V.F. Silva coll.; one paratype female from unidentified plant, Cananéia, State of São Paulo, 17 August 2002, N.C. Mesa coll., deposited at ESALQ-USP.

Description. Females (n= 3). Figures 21–25 View FIGURES 21 – 25 .

Dorsum. Dorsal shield mostly smooth, with few anterolateral striae, 13 pairs of lyrifissures and five pairs of pores, 272 (270–277) long and 156 (155–157) wide. Setae j 1 27 (26–29), j 3 38 (35–40), j 4 10 (9–11), j 5 8 (8–9), j 6 10 (9–10), J 2 10, J 5 8 (7–9), z 2 19 (15–21), z 4 39 (38–42), z 5 9 (9–10), Z 1 10 (9–11), Z 4 57 (50–61), Z 5 77 (75– 79), s 4 62 (61–64), S 2 14 (12–16), S 4 11 (10–12), S 5 10, r 3 27 (26–28), R 1 10. All dorsal setae smooth and pointed, except for Z 4 and Z 5, serrate and pointed.

Venter. Sternal shield mooth, except for the lateral lines at fusion with the endopodal plate, with three pairs of setae and two pairs of lyrifissures; posterior margin indistinct; distances between St 1 - St 3 57 (57–58), St 2 - St 2 66 (60–70). Genital shield smooth; distance between St 5 - St 5 64 (62–67). Ventrianal shield smooth, vase-shaped, 91 (90–92) long, 50 (49–50) wide at level of ZV 2 and 52 (51–52) wide at anus level, with three pairs of pre-anal setae (JV 1, JV 2 and ZV 2); JV 4, JV 5, ZV 1 and ZV 3 on unsclerotised cuticle, and a pair of elliptical pores posteromediad of JV 2. Ventral setae smooth and pointed. One pair of metapodal plates present. Peritreme extending beyond level of j 1.

Chelicera. Movable cheliceral digit 29 (28–30) long, with two teeth; fixed cheliceral digit 24 (22–26) long, with nine teeth and a pilus dentilis.

Spermatheca. Calyx tubular, 15 (13–16) long, atrium elongate.

Leg macrosetae. Sge I 26 (25–26), Sge II 22 (21–22), Sge III 20 (19–20), Sti III 16 (16–17), Sge IV 53 (46–58), Sti IV 24 (23–25), St IV 52 (51–53), all pointed. Chaetotaxy: genu II: 1-2 / 1, 2 / 1 - 1; genu III: 1-2 / 1, 2 / 0-1

Male. Unknown.

Etymology. The name macroatrium is a compound of macro (from Greek for large) and atrium.

Remarks. Amblydromalus macroatrium n. sp. is similar to Amblydromalus higuilloae Denmark & Muma, 1975 and A. laetus . Amblydromalus higuilloae differs from this new species by having Z 4 shorter than distance between its base and the base of Z 5, and the following setae shorter: z 4, Z 4 and Z 5 (20, 39 and 59 respectively). Amblydromalus laetus differs from this new species by having S 2 about three times as long as Z 1 and seemingly longer spermathecal calyx.
