Pfeiffer, 1857. Proceedings of the Zoological Society of London, 25: 107.
Type material: Original description based on one or more specimens in Cuming collection; type material not found in NHMUK collections in 2018, present whereabouts unknown. Neotype, CMNZ M12780, designated from the type series of Charopa miranda Hutton, 1883 , by Marshall & Barker (2008:145).
Type locality: ‘New Zealand’ ( Pfeiffer 1857b: 107); neotype from ‘Greymouth’ ( Hutton, 1883b: 476) [see comments regarding type locality by Marshall & Barker (2008: 146)].
Remarks: Three badly damaged specimens in lot NHMUK 1852.3.19.231–233, with the label details’Helix granum Pfeiffer , New Zealand, presented by Capt. Stokes, collected by F. Strange’, may have been collected at the same time and place as the material in the Cuming collection that was described by Pfeiffer. There are no published illustrations of type material available. Marshall & Barker (2008) noted that some previous records of Helix granum (e.g., by Hedley & Suter 1893: 642; Suter 1913b: 641; Powell 1979: 320) referred to the morphologically similar species Granallodiscus abaxoides Marshall & Barker, 2008 and G. mayhillae Marshall & Barker, 2008 . Charopa miranda Hutton, 1883 was treated as a junior synonym of Helix granum Pfeiffer, 1857 , by Marshall & Barker (2008: 145).
Current Taxonomy: Listed as Granallodiscus granum (Pfeiffer, 1857) by Marshall & Barker (2008: 145) and Spencer et al. (2009: 215).
Distribution: New Zealand; southeastern North Island and northern South Island ( Marshall & Barker 2008).
