Helix umbraculum Pfeiffer, 1854
Pfeiffer, 1854. Proceedings of the Zoological Society of London, 20 (1852): 147.
Type material: This species was probably described from one or more specimens in the Cuming collection, as suggested by the reference to Frederick Strange by Pfeiffer (1853a: 40); type material not found in NHMUK collections in 2018, and whereabouts unknown .
Type locality: ‘New Zealand’ ( Pfeiffer 1854b: 147).
Remarks: Pfeiffer evidently intended to publish the original description of this species in the Proceedings of the Zoological Society of London issue for 1851 (see Pfeiffer 1853a: 40 —nomen nudum), but publication was delayed until 1854 ( Pfeiffer 1854b: 147). There are no published illustrations of the type material.
Current Taxonomy: Treated as a junior synonym of Nanina mariae Gray, 1843 by Pfeiffer (1853a: 40), Gray (1855: 135), Martens (1873: 11), Hutton (1884b: 196) and Suter (1913b: 740).
