Cainocreadium consuetum ( Linton, 1910) Yamaguti, 1971 View in CoL
Synonyms: Hamacreadium consuetum Linton, 1910 .
Records. From the white grunt, Haemulon plumierii (Lacépède) , and the bluestriped grunt, Haemulon sciurus (Shaw) (Haemulidae) , off the Dry Tortugas, Florida, Gulf of Mexico ( Linton 1910). From H. sciurus off Belize, Caribbean Sea by Fischthal (1977).
Remarks. Yamaguti (1971) transferred this species to Cainocreadium because it has a medial genital pore. Haemulids are not typical hosts for species of Cainocreadium and C. consuetum is smaller than is typical for either species of Hamacreadium or Cainocreadium (770–1,610 µm long). The excretory vesicle has not been described and the eggs are also small (51 × 34 µm). This combination is accepted for the present, but both closer examination of this species and a general revision of Cainocreadium are required.
