Banisteria subcordata Gardner (1843: 336)

Type:—First-step lectotype (designated by Gates 1982):— BRAZIL, “ Rio de Janeiro ”,1837, Gardner 338. Second-step lectotype (designated here): K [ K000427263 , digital image!]; isolectotypes: BM [ BM000796202 , BM000796203 , BM000796215 , digital image!], G [ G00352647 , G00352648 , digital image!], GH [ 00045017 ], K [ K000427261 , K000427262 , K000427263 , digital image!], P [ P02428893 , P02428894 , digital image!], NY [ NY00055151 , NY00055150 , digital image!], US [ 00108587 ]. Figure 5 .

Notes:—Gates took the first step lectotypification for B. subcordata , indicating the Gardner 338 collection and the holotype in the K herbarium. Three specimens labelled as Gardner 338 are available at K: K 000427261, K 000427262, and K 000427263. Gates made a mark in pen in the herbarium specimen K 000427263, as the holotype and the two others as isotypes, but did not comment on this in the post. So, we designate K 000427263 as the second step lectotypification for B. subcordata . Also, Gates (1982) considered Banisteria subcordata as a synonym of Banisteriopsis adenopoda .
