Epeus covid Lin & Li , sp. nov. ( Figs 51–54 View Figure 51 View Figure 52 View Figure 53 View Figure 54 )
Etymology. The species is named after Covid-19 (Coronavirus Disease 2019); noun in apposition.
Diagnosis. Males of the new species can be distinguished from all congeners by having the cymbial apophysis serrated at the base (vs. lacking serration in other species). The female of the new species is similar to that of E. daiqini Patoleta, Gardzińska & Żabka, 2020 by the wide copulatory openings and curved copulatory ducts. However, the new species can be distinguished from E. daiqini by the ratio of the width of the fertilization ducts to the length of the tegular apophysis being 2: 1 (vs. 4: 1 in E. daiqini ).
Description. Male (holotype). Total length 5.47; carapace 2.28 long, 1.80 wide, opisthosoma 3.19 long, 1.10 wide. Eye sizes and interdistances: AME 0.49, ALE 0.16, PME 0.06, PLE 0.16, AME–AME 0.50, AME–ALE 0.04, PME–PME 1.03, PME–PLE 0.28, AME–PME 0.50, ALE–PLE 0.59. Chelicerae with two promarginal and one retromarginal teeth. Leg measurements: I 6.57 (2.00, 2.67, 1.24, 0.66), II 6.04 (1.91, 2.33, 1.14, 0.66), III 6.65 (2.15, 2.20, 1.54, 0.76), IV 6.23 (1.89, 2.03, 1.61, 0.70).
Coloration ( Figs 53A–B View Figure 53 ). Carapace and chelicerae brown. Endites, labium and sternum paler yellow. Legs yellow-brown with black setae. Opisthosoma cylindrical, grey. Spinnerets grey.
Palp ( Fig. 51 View Figure 51 ). Retrolateral tibial apophysis thick, terminus flat. Cymbium apically slightly curved, basally serrated, terminus flat. Tegular lobe digitiform. Embolus filiform, arising at clock 6:00 position, coiled 180°, basally serrated.
Female (IZCAS-Ar43974). Total length 6.12; carapace 2.66 long, 2.01 wide, opisthosoma 3.46 long, 1.42 wide. Eye sizes and interdistances: AME 0.49, ALE 0.16, PME 0.06, PLE 0.16, AME–AME 0.05, AME–ALE 0.03, PME–PME 1.30, PME–PLE 0.32, AME–PME 0.50, ALE–PLE 0.59. Chelicerae with two promarginal and one retromarginal teeth. Leg measurements: I 6.34 (1.98, 2.52, 1.13, 0.71), II 6.30 (1.99, 2.44, 1.15, 0.72), III 6.97 (2.29, 2.26, 1.67, 0.75), IV 6.40 (1.92, 2.16, 1.62, 0.70).
Coloration ( Figs 53C–D View Figure 53 ). Similar to that of male except opisthosoma with long black spot.
Epigyne ( Fig. 52 View Figure 52 ). Epigynal plate wider than long. Atrium transverse oval. Copulatory openings wide, almost touching each other. Copulatory ducts convoluted. Glandular appendage inconspicuous. Spermathecae oblong. Fertilization ducts directed toward clock 3:00 position from spermathecae.
Material examined. Holotype ♂ (IZCAS-Ar43972), China, Yunnan, Pu'er , Jiangcheng County, 19–24 July 2022, Fan Gao leg. Paratypes. 1♂ 1♀ (IZCAS-Ar43973, Ar43974), same data as holotype .
Distribution. Known only from the type locality.
