Basionym of: Gladiolus plicatus (L.) L. (1762) .

Lectotype (Lewis in J. S. African Bot., Suppl. 3: 11. 1959): Herb. Linn. No. 59.6, left specimen ( LINN) .

Current name: Babiana villosula (J.G. Gmel.) Ker ex Steud. View in CoL ( Iridaceae ).

Note: This has a very confused synonymy. Lewis argued that Babiana plicata Ker is not based on I. plicata , so Linnaeus’ name is not available for use in the genus despite its priority. She was also aware that the Sparrman collection on the right of sheet 59.6 (LINN) was a later addition to the herbarium and therefore restricted her type choice to the specimen to the left.
