Type Locality: Paraguay.
Vernacular Names: Black Howler.
Synonyms: Alouatta barbatus (Spix 1823) ; Alouatta niger (É. Geoffroy 1812) ; Alouatta straminea (Humboldt 1812) .
Distribution: N Argentina to Mato Grosso ( Brazil), Bolivia (see Anderson, 1997).
Conservation: CITES – Appendix II; IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).
Discussion: A. caraya species group. For the inclusion of straminea in this species, not in A. seniculus , see Rylands and Brandon-Jones (1988).
