Type Locality: Malawi, Nyika Plateau (between 10 and 11°S and 33°40' to 34°10'E). GoogleMaps
Vernacular Names: Greater Dwarf Shrew.
Synonyms: Suncus gratulus (Thomas and Schwann 1907) .
Distribution: Savanna zones of Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, Dem. Rep. Congo, Zambia, Angola, Botswana, and South Africa (KwaZulu-Natal, Northwest Prov., Mpumalanga, and Limpopo).
Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).
Discussion: Heim de Balsac and Meester (1977) included aequatorius and gratulus in lixus ; the former is treated as a separate species here. Gureev (1979:383) listed gratulus as a distinct species without comment.
