Members of this genus occupy quills of primaries, secondaries and tertials feathers and are associated with passeriform birds of the families: Alaudidae , Calcariidae , Cardinalidae , Corvidae , Emberizidae , Fringillidae , Mimidae , Muscicapidae , Ptilogonatidae , Prunellidae , Pycnonotidae , and Turdidae .

The Nearctic fauna comprises eight of the 17 described species in this genus: T. aphelocoma Bochkov et al., 2009 , T. cardinalis Bochkov et al., 2009 , T. coccothraustes Bochkov et al., 2009 , T. cyanocitta Bochkov et al., 2009 , T. merulae Skoracki et al., 2000 , T. mima Kethley, 1970 , T. piranga Bochkov et al., 2009 , and T. villosa ( Hancock, 1895) .
