Genus Syringophilopsis Kethley, 1970

Syringophilopsis Kethley, 1970: 18 ; Skoracki 2011: 154.

Type species: Syringophilus elongatus Ewing, 1911 , by original designation.

Representatives of this genus occupy quills of primaries and secondaries. They are mainly associated with passerines and have been recorded from birds of the families: Acrocephalidae , Alaudidae , Cardinalidae , Certhiidae , Corvidae , Dicruridae , Estrildidae , Fringillidae , Hirundinidae , Icteridae , Laniidae , Meliphagidae , Mimidae , Motacillidae , Muscicapidae , Paridae , Parulidae , Passeridae , Ploceidae , Polioptilidae , Pycnonotidae , Sittidae , Sturnidae , Sylviidae , Thraupidae , Turdidae , and Tyrannidae . Only three species have been recorded on non-passeriform birds of the orders: Coraciiformes (fam. Meropidae ) and Trogoniformes (Trogonidae) .

The genus Syringophilopsis includes 45 species, among them 16 are present in the Nearctic region. Species group elongatus : S. catesbyi sp. nov., S. elongatus ( Ewing, 1911) , S. icteri Bochkov and Galloway, 2001 , S. mimidus Sikora et al., 2011 , S. passerinae ( Clark, 1964) , S. sturnellus Skoracki et al., 2011 , S. tyranni Bochkov and Galloway, 2004 , S. wilsoni sp. nov.

Species group fringillae : S. empidonax Skoracki et al., 2008 .

Species group turdus : S. bartrami sp. nov., S. certhiae Skoracki et al., 2011 , S. dendroicae Bochkov and Galloway, 2001 , S. polioptilus Skoracki et al., 2008 , S. sialiae Skoracki et al., 2008 , S. sittae Skoracki et al., 2011 , S. turdi ( Fritsch, 1958) .
