Taxonomic history and taxonomy. This specimen is the holotype of both Ophion unicolor Smith, 1874 and Paniscus gracilipes formosus Morley, 1913a . This is not the

same as Paniscus unicolor, 1874 , the current combination of which is Netelia (Netelia) unicolor ( Smith, 1874) . Claude Morley added ‘NOT’ and ‘CM’ to the red BM type label. Morley seems not to have been aware that Frederick Smith published Ophion unicolor and Paniscus unicolor as distinct taxa; presumably Morley thought that 3b.1521 is not the type of Ophion unicolor on the basis that this is a different species from Paniscus unicolor , which is correct, but that is because these are separate taxa. The list of synonymy in Townes et al. (1965) seems to be correct. As Ophion unicolor Smith, 1874 , is a junior homonym of Ophion unicolor Smith, 1860 , Dalla Torre (1902) proposed the replacement name Ophion smithii Dalla Torre, 1901 . Konishi (1986) treats ‘ smithii’ as belonging to the subgenus Apatagium Enderlein, 1912 (of the tristrigata species-group), but the description of the clypeus (supposed to be apically rounded, but is truncate in the type) and of the genitalia indicates that this is incorrect. The correct name for ‘ smithii ’ sensu Konishi is presumably Amebachia coreana Uchida, 1928b (= Netelia (Apatagium) coreana (Uchida) stat. rev.).

Paniscus gracilipes formosus was synonymised under Netelia laevis ( Cameron, 1905b) View in CoL by Kaur and Jonathan (1979). However, the holotype of Paniscus laevis (NHMUK type 3b.1537) belongs in Apatagium (as published by Konishi (1986)) whereas the holotype of unicolor and formosus is an Amebachia Uchida, 1928b , judging by head morphology and male genitalia – the hind legs are broken so the important character of the tarsal claw pectination protruding beyond the apex of the claw in Apatagium is unverifiable. The genitalia match the illustration of Netelia (Amebachia) yoshimatsui Konishi, 2010 syn. nov. (cf. Konishi 2010: 221, Figures 33–36 View Figure 33 View Figure 34 View Figure 35 View Figure 36 ), particularly the distinctive, tapering paramere; Netelia smithii View in CoL (= Ophion unicolor and Paniscus gracilipes formosus ) is therefore a senior synonym of N. yoshimatsui .

Current taxonomy. Primary homonym, valid name: Netelia (Amebachia) smithii (Dalla Torre, 1901) View in CoL comb. rev. ( Ichneumonidae View in CoL : Tryphoninae : Phytodietini ).
